A village in Brittany has introduced a points system to limit the ownership of holiday homes

The town of Plumodan, north-west of Rennes, has implemented a system to prioritize new buyers who want to move there. First-time homebuyers in a given village are given extra points, along with young families whose children will attend the local school, allowing them to retain it. Those interested in purchasing are also asked to submit a letter of motivation explaining why they want to move to the village. The restrictions are being introduced after a number of plots for new buildings in the village were bought up for holiday homes. The commune has become more attractive to second home buyers as people seek tranquility in the countryside. But priority will now be given to young, local, first-time buyers.
