Foreign demand drives Barcelona’s housing market to record levels in 2022


According to the latest data from the city of Barcelona, ​​more than 16,000 houses were sold last year, which is 16% more than in 2021 and the highest figure in the history of such studies. Sales on the secondary real estate market increased by 39%, and sales of new buildings by 18%. Average housing prices increased by 6% in euro/sq. m, which was the first upward trend since 2017, as in recent years it was slowed down by the consequences of the pandemic and government measures.

The number of foreign home buyers in the Catalan capital reached 2,871 last year, up 46% on 2021 and an all-time record. Local demand increased by 11%. Almost half of some types of luxury new buildings were purchased by foreign investors.
