Maltese residence permit when purchasing real estate

For those wishing to obtain a residence permit in Malta, there is a special state program Malta Global Residence Program (GRP), participation in which allows you to obtain a residence permit in the country in a fairly short period of time – 4-5 months. It requires the following conditions to be met:

  • purchase of real estate in Malta, costing from 280,000 euros in the north of the country, and from 230,000 euros in the south of the island or on the island of Gozo;
  • payment of the registration fee – 6,000 euros;
  • annual payment of tax on income received outside the state, and the amount of tax must be at least 15,000 euros;
  • registration of health insurance.

A residence permit is issued for the entire family of the applicant, including children under 25 years of age (if they are dependent on the investor). Applicants must confirm the legal origin of the funds, have no criminal records or bans on entry into the USA, Canada and EU countries, and have a good business reputation.

All applicants for the Malta residence permit program undergo the Due Diligence procedure, which is carried out by special Maltese authorities. The entire process of obtaining a residence permit in Malta takes from 3 to 5 months.

Program participants do not need to reside in Malta, but should limit their stay in other jurisdictions for a period of up to 183 days. The Malta residence permit under the Malta Global Residence Program is of unlimited duration and is renewable upon fulfilling the conditions of the program: maintaining the property in ownership or rental and paying annual income tax.
