Cities of Liguria, Italy
Liguria, located on the northern coast of the Ligurian Sea, is one of the smallest regions of Italy. Despite its location – somewhat remote from the main part of Italy, this region is very popular among tourists and those wishing to purchase property in Liguria.
Foreigners are attracted here not only by the warm, mild Mediterranean-type climate – almost the same as on the neighboring French Riviera, numerous beaches with clear water, but also by the cities of Liguria, which are distinguished by an abundance of historical attractions.
Such cities include, first of all, Genoa, where there is a direct flight from Moscow, and from Genoa you can go to your final destination by train, bus or boat.
Before leaving, visitors to this city usually visit the gallery of Palazzo Bianco (White Palace), which houses a collection of local artists who worked between the 15th and 18th centuries. An obligatory part of the program is a monument to Christopher Columbus, who was born in this city.
For entertainment, the Aquarium in Porto Vecchio (Old Port) is suitable, where more than ten thousand sea inhabitants are kept, and a children’s playground has also been built.
However, the cities of Liguria are not only seaside resorts that live mainly from tourism. Settlements located at some distance from the sea coast also deserve attention: for example, for lovers of nature walks, you can stay in Bugio or Possillon, which are located next to nature reserves.
Cities of Liguria on the coast
However, the most populated and visited are the cities of Liguria on the coast, among which, in addition to Genoa, the following resorts are widely known:
Ligurian city with an elite resort – Portofino
Portofino is one of the elite resorts and is famous both in Italy and abroad. Most of the real estate in this tiny town, whose population barely exceeds 500 people, is owned by celebrities from the world of show business.
City of Liguria with a Russian church – San Remo
San Remo enjoys no less fame, which, first of all, became famous for its annual Italian song festivals. You can while away the time in this chic resort, which has one of the best beaches in Liguria, in boutiques and casinos, while history buffs are in for a surprise – a Russian Orthodox church built at the beginning of the 20th century.

City of Liguria in the “Gulf of Poets” – La Spezia
La Spezia is the second largest city in Liguria, located at the eastern tip of the region in the so-called “Gulf of Poets”. If many cities of Liguria on the coast are open to the wind, then La Spezia is protected from it by mountains on all sides except the sea.
Due to the presence of a large number of attractions, you can do more than just a beach holiday. This is the country’s largest Maritime Museum, the St. George Fortress, and a real fish market selling only fresh produce.
The third city of Liguria – Savona
Savona is much quieter and calmer than small Sanremo. The only exception is the seaport where international cruise ships dock.
Beaches, the total length of which is 4 km, are located at a short distance, and among them you can find free ones.
In addition to its ancient monuments, Savona is famous for the drink quinotto, which, in the absence of other uses, began to be produced here from bitter orange at the beginning of the 18th century.
You can find real estate in this quiet and peaceful city of Liguria here.
Cities on the Ligurian coast that are suitable for purchasing real estate are not limited to these five. To these you can add Varazze, Diano Marina, Pietro Ligure, Santa Margherita Ligure, Arenzano, Alassio and as many other settlements where history is harmoniously combined with modern infrastructure.
Real estate in Liguria, Italy
Housing prices, as well as real estate itself, in Liguria differ significantly from each other. Despite the lack of beaches in the city itself, Portofino is beyond competition, where prices are the highest for real estate in Liguria.
This is explained by the fact that the fashionable village mainly consists of luxury villas, the price of which can be about 20 million euros.
Apartments in buildings that are centuries old at best are also not available to every buyer – their prices start at about 400 thousand euros, although in prestigious buildings with identical characteristics this amount should be multiplied at least three times.
On average, the range of prices per square meter is 15-30 thousand euros. It should be borne in mind that in 99% of cases it will be necessary to do, if not major, then thorough repairs.
Real estate prices in Liguria look quite affordable in its capital, Genoa, where even villas, with rare exceptions, cost less than half a million euros.
If the buyer sets his goal to acquire an apartment in Genoa by the sea for a few weeks of summer vacation, then he has every chance to meet the amount of up to one hundred thousand euros for an apartment with 1-2 bedrooms.
The second place in terms of real estate prices in Liguria is occupied not, as it might seem, by the world famous San Remo, but by Santa Margherita Ligure, where wealthy families from Milan settled long ago, and in the new century Russians who heard about it joined. Hence the prices, which lag behind Portofino (up to 20 thousand euros per 1 sq.m.), but on average two and a half times higher than both San Remo and Alessio.
In the middle of the last century, Alessio was considered a resort for creative individuals, and prices were relatively affordable. Now they are steadily going up, since this city in Liguria has been recognized by medical specialists as beneficial to health, staying in which helps treat a number of diseases.
